I was a big ol' nerd for the Bravestarr cartoon and toy series when I was a lad. No doubt my love of children's sci-fi/fantasy stories had much to do with my affection, coupled, perhaps, with the fact that my dad was something of a cowboy.
Whatever the case, I recently decided to create a custom action figure of Bravestarr for my G.I. Joe Sigma 6 shelf. I'd have simply bought the original Bravestarr doll on eBay, 'cause those figures were in fact the same height as Sigmas. Problem being, those old toys look cheesy now:

(I do in fact want one, nonetheless, just not for my Sigma shelf.)
So I decided, instead, to do one of those dreaded and newfangled "reimaginings," meaning I'd put together a figure that was (loosely) inspired by Bravestarr, but which looked slightly less... well... stupid.
Also, I figured that the poor guy was about due for a name change, 'cause seriously: "Bravestarr"? Geez, that's silly.
So my logic is this: in my sad, silly universe, Bravestarr has finally killed his arch-nemesis, Tex-Hex, who incidentally looked like this:

(Tee-hee. The '80s = dumb.)
And I figure Bravestarr was your typical cartoon goody-goody, and so killing a dude maybe messed him up in the head a little bit, and so at some point he decided that, as penance, he would take on the mantle of the creature he destroyed. But of course "Tex Hex" isn't any better than "Bravestarr."
And so it is that I present to you...
Hex:

So... dare I ask:
Whaddaya think?

Really? 'Cause I was thinking if ya strip away all the Bravestarr nonsense, then "Hex" is still kind of a catchy name. "Marshall" sounds a bit bland, don't you think?
I could also go with the name of the freaky mystic dude who served as Bravestarr's mentor: "Shaman."
Or the freakier, anthropomorphic bull monster who served as Tex Hex's muse: "Stampede."

I just don't feel this one, sir.
I love you, and what you do, but this? Don't feel it.

The whole project, or just the names?

great take on the idea, not real sure about the name Hex but I see where your coming from as self punishment. If your still tossing around names, what about Lawman?

Also, nice icon!

You could always call him Wagon Burner! ( for shame! my inner child was racist! ) HAHAHA! just playin.
I wish i could still find my tex hex I have his guns but no Hex. Booooooo! I had him and that Sand Storm dude and that was it ... no good guys ... i didn't like good guys when i was a kid ...still dont.

And a Sigma-style Jonah Hex would be wicked.
Meanwhile, the only Bravestarr villain I ever had was Tex Hex, but I also had his Skull Walker vehicle. And while it doesn't hold up at all, I still want it for my "Hex" custom.

Ben Rumson was Lee Marvin's character in Paint Your Wagon. One of the most bad ass actors ever in easily his least bad ass movie. And Lee Marvin was very cowboy and so was Ben Rumson.
So there you go.

And thank you for enjoying the Dora bit. I've been meaning to do that stupid joke for over a month now, so I'm glad somebody likes it.

I saw your Toyfoto post and thought I'd have a look at your journal. So many cool customs! I'm quite fond of Shredder...
Mind if I add you?

Of course not. I'll reciprocate.
I wasn't expecting Dora to be carrying souls, but looking at the face she makes, I wonder why I was surprised!
Yeah, I was going to give her a "burning" font, but as Faith No More once said, it's much more Satanic this way. Especially with those wildly off-kilter Shannon Doherty eyes of hers.

What do you do for work these days?
July 10 2008, 16:58:13 UTC 3 years ago
I think if i was on day shift it would have been MUCH different. Night shift was wonderful without all the customers and just genuine geeky people like me.
I'm a graphic designer for a machining company now- not as fun as toys, but it pays more- lol.
What about you?

I'd love to have the summers off, I just don't think I could handle the children properly- i have an artist's temperment, lol.
